The many friends of the late Edward Franklin Walls, Jr., can now enjoy a side of him that they may not have known, that of a deeply introspective witness to life and all its vagaries. Surprises and discover-ies such as those re-vealed in these poems are priceless.

In His Own Words
by Edward Franklin Walls, Jr.
Edited by Stanley Walls
Edward Franklin Walls, Jr. was the Director of Personnel in the City of Savannah for many years. After his death his son, Stanley Arnold Walls, found a thick sheaf of unpublished poems among his fathers papers and decided to edit and publish them. This book is the result of that decision. In these verses, the elder Walls, who was classically educated at Atlanta's Oglethorpe University, reflects on the eternal verities of the human condition: life, love, and commitment to service.
Portent
The wind is blowing for me
The waving trees are beckoning.
With a voice that seems an undertone,
Of the might of the nature of the great reckoning,
With a sorrowful - fearful - melancholy moan,
What lies ahead?
What's there behind the sullen clouds,
So ominously overcast?
Swirling on the crest of the westerlies
Serving a summons on a leaf from the untimed.
